Hello Amazing Two Legged Beings of Earth. As the co-founder of Meta Soul, I would like to share one way to be the best version of you via mediation. Now, I am sharing the basics with you that I have been using for years. Countless individuals practice meditation these days, and the benefits have been touted on numerous platforms and within many modalities. Mediation has gone mainstream so religion and spiritualism are no longer a prerequisite for this healing practice to peace and well-being. I believe that you can gain amazing benefits from meditation. Meditation has been scientifically proven to assist in many ways within our bodies and it boosts dopamine in our brains. The studies show evidence based results, and I highly suggest you research this now embraced phenomenon that is known as meditation. I have honed some techniques that I use to support me on my journey as a human on this planet. In this human form, we encounter stressful stimuli and events on a daily basis, and we must be able to find that safe place within our own self. Meditation is a tool that enables us to feel supported, peaceful and calm as a foundation so we are able to withstand all that life gives to us in any format.
First and foremost, anyone can engage in the practice of meditation. Gone are the days when you have to be a yogi or sit hours in a cross legged position on a hard surface. Let go of any perceptions or preconceived ideas of the perfect mediation practice. This is your path, your practice, your meditation, curtail it to you! So, what I love to do is find a quiet space either in my home or outside, and I like to bring some music with me. Personally, I have some amazing music that is available on Spotify, and I'm happy to share that with you to assist you on your way. If you prefer, pick some of your own music that is calm and soothing to you and makes you get in touch with those feel good vibes.
Next, simply lay down and if you choose, clear the space. Clearing the space can be accomplished in a few different ways, but I choose to take a Native American approach and use sage which cleanses the space. If you prefer, say something simple such as, “I now clear, clean and cleanse this space, and only allow the highest energy and vibrations to come into my space right now. Thank you.” Then, I close my eyes, lay down and find the laying position that is easiest for me. You want to be relaxed, never be in the space where you feel like you have to hold your body really tense. Simple, full relaxed state of being, no yoga positions, no legs and hands up in the air, just laying down on a flat surface.
Once you are comfortable, close your eyes and breathe. Just take a few deep breaths, breathe in and breathe out.In through your nose and out through your mouth. Think upon your breath, focus on your breath as it enters and leaves your body. Some people think meditation is about not allowing thoughts to come into your mind which is not accurate. Thoughts are a part of being human and will always come into your mind. Meditation is about continued focus on the breath despite the thoughts. What we focus upon is the breath and the stillness, we do not give the thoughts life. Stay in the moment, stay in the present, and if I start thinking about the groceries I need to buy later in the day, I consciously let that thought go. Refocus and pay attention to breath, and you'll start to see that you're really able to maintain focus on the breath for longer and longer.
Now, I think there's also sort of a misconception out there that you have to have a 30 minute, 45 minute, an hour or two hour meditation session. Mediation can be any amount of time you deem for you at any given time, even 5 minutes is considered meditation in your day. If you can only hold this space and focus for one minute the first time, that is one minute of total and complete focus! Challenge yourself to do another extra 30 seconds, another 30 seconds, another 30 seconds and before you know it, you'll be doing 30 minutes and you’ll see how meditation can change your life. Meditation has been shown to assist in better mental clarity and brain function allowing you to be able to stay in the moment and focus on what you're doing instead of being split in a million different directions.
I have offered you a few quick tips and tricks to get you started on your journey of meditation. As a side note, sometimes there is an expectation out there that something is supposed to happen during meditation. Well, what I say is that sometimes nothing happens in my meditations and they're beautiful meditations because nothing happens. Let’s go easy on ourselves and let go of any expectations about what is supposed to happen in meditation and allow our practice to unfold organically and naturally, and if something amazing happens, embrace that too! As long as you come out of your meditation feeling revitalized, refreshed and ready to continue your day, you are having the meditation that is for you!
Peace and Blessings from the Meta Soul Family to Yours!
